Completing my Bucket List

What do I want to do in life?

I’m one of those people who has never know what my “dream career” was.  So sold out to the 9-5 lifestyle in a job that doesn’t exactly thrill me, makes other people rich and leaves my brain switched off.

The last few years of my bucket list have focused a lot more on my health, happiness, confidence and travel.  This year is time to start concentrating on my future, because doing what I’m doing for the next 40 years will have been a total waste of my life.

I’ve started taking nights classes in web design at the college and for the first time in a long time my brain was happy!  It was learning again.  I’m also attending business courses with the hope that one day I will be my own boss.  In what area I still don’t know. I have ideas of course with the bucket list being at the centre of most of them.

So as this saying goes, If I change nothing, nothing will change.  So time to change some things.

if-you-change-nothing

How long did it take you in life to realise your dream career?  Any tips to help me realise mine?

Hey! I know exactly where you’re coming from. Was doing the 9-5 in New York City and now I’m a tour guide in the US. I have no idea what my dream career is, but for now, I’m doing something that makes me happy. You just gotta let go of the standards society has set for you and do whatever it is that you enjoy. Cheers!

Good luck with your courses, it sounds rather exciting!

For me I looked at what I was passionate about originally, music, and started to look at what I could do there. Initially I did promotion on Twitter to start building a following and gain a bit of notice, then I did reviews online before joining an internet radio station. This led to work with an independent music label and lots of opportunities to make contacts. Im still doing all the above, and I love it, alas it proved to be fruitless in terms of an income, but the experience is invaluble.

So I’ve recently looked at my current job and analysed which bits I enjoy most of that. (Turns out to be the admin stuff), so now I’m intending to get a full time job in admin, that will tide me over, challenge me & be more interesting than my current job, while having my music passion as a hobby to keep me fired up. Never know I may even get to do admin in the music industry!

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing in order to get as close to my dream career as possible.

My tips would be to look at what you’re passionate about, and find a way to make money off of it. Or if you can’t, find a job you do enjoy (by working out which bit of your current job you do like) and try and work your passion around it.
