My mum retired at the end of last year so we decided we’d book a trip away just the two of us. After finding another great deal with Easyjet we booked our flights to Geneva for 3 nights.
We checked into the 4 star Hotel Royal Manotel and were upgraded to a beautiful suite with a balcony. It was situated just a 5 minute walk from the train station, or one tram stop away.
Public transport is included in your stay which covers the buses, trains and trams.
Our first night we took a ten minute walk to the lake to see the Jet d’Eau and were lucky enough to see a beautiful rainbow through it.
On the Saturday we bought train tickets to Montreux and spent the day hopping on and off the train. Starting off with a stop at Vevey. Every Saturday morning they have a market along the lake selling fresh fruit, veg, meat, clothes, soaps and a lot more.
Follow by a long walk along the lake until we came across the fork statue. Then stopped to enjoy the beautiful weather on one of the seats which are built into the rocks.
We hopped back on the train and headed to our next stop Montreux, the Jazz city of Switzerland. You can tell the cities love for music with the art, and stages along the lake with live music.
After that it was back to Geneva for the evening. We were pretty tired after the day so took advantage of the kitchen in our suite and enjoyed a cuppa tea, a croissant and an early night.
On Sunday morning we headed out to watch some of the Geneva marathon. We then took a tram to the broken chair statue and the United nations building, before having to head to the airport to catch our flight home.
Lake Geneva has some of the best scenery I have ever seen in my life. The gorgeous lake with the sun shining, and the snow topped mountains in the back ground makes for an amazing weekend break.
Is Switzerland on your bucket list? I’d love to see your photos.
